Trump & Co. Do Not Claim to Be Angry at Comparison to Saddam Hussein: LAUGH OF THE DAY

The Cheesecake Factory has a look: that is part of its branding as a friendly carbmaxxxing chain restaurant, and it is successful, and indeed appropriate—for a carbmaxxxing chain restaurant. But is that look appropriate for the public spaces of a Great Republic? Only the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board thinks so. Or pretends to think so. Even Donald Trump thinks it is an inappropriate look. But Donald Trump believes that his White House redecorating looks nothing like a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, and is offended by the comprison. The problem is: It does look like a Cheesecake Factory restaurant:

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board cries fake tears, and complains that it is mean and insulting to the working man of Middle America to point this out.

True: Barack Obama is not a very nice guy these days. But I do not think a nice guy is what we need right now:

Barack Obama: <https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6X5sozR2ouw>: ‘I had heard the president was not happy when I joked over the weekend that he’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory….

The president wasn’t even mad about the Saddam Hussein comparison. That part didn’t bother him. But he was very upset about the Cheesecake Factory comments…

Now we all know that the Cheesecake Factory has decided that it is going to have a deliberate look as part of its brand. And rather few of us think that that look is appropriate for the public spaces of a Great Republic. Indeed, Donald Trump does not: He was really angry that Barack Obama mocked him by saying that that the Cheesecake Factory look was the look he was trying for.

The Wall Stret Journal, similarly to Trump, was not at all unhappy with the Saddam Hussein comparison. But they seem to think, or to want to say and pretend to think, that looking like a Cheesecake Factory is 100% appropriate for the public spaces of a Great Republic. Thus we have this here:

Wall Street Journal Editorial Board: Obama Goes Socialist, Scorns Cheesecake <https://www.wsj.com/opinion/barack-obama-angie-nixon-cheesecake-factory-bf1303ce>: ‘He throws in with Florida’s Angie Nixon and condescends to Middle America: President Obama has delivered another condescending classic. Campaigning for Democrats in Ohio this weekend, he said that President Trump’s redecorations have the White House “looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.” The same day, Mr. Obama endorsed a socialist as Florida’s next U.S. Senator.

Making fun of chain restaurants is quite an angle for Democrats, who keep insisting that they haven’t forgotten the working man in Middle America. The Cheesecake Factory has a couple of hundred locations, the company says, so it must be doing something deliciously right. But to all of those diners in Cleveland, Grand Rapids, and beyond, here’s Mr. Obama’s message: How déclassé…

Anyone who thinks for a minute will notice that Donald Trump agrees with Barack Obama here: Trump did not say “Cheesecake Factory look is great! That is what I was hoping to accomplish!” did he? No: Trump was deeply and mortally offended, as he is deeply and mortally offended by pretty much everything.

And I do not think Middle America believes that the Cheesecake Factory look is appropriate in the public spaces of a Great Republic—although the look is fine for, say, a Cheesecake Factory.

Only the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board does.

Or, rather, pretends to.

Let the record show that no member of the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, or indeed anyone who works for the Wall Street Journal, has ever suggested that we meet at a Cheesecake Factory.

They don’t dare be angry with the Saddam Hussein comparison: that strikes them as too close to home, and to feign or be outraged is (a) not credible, and (b) draws attention to Trump’s irrationality, insanity, and cruelty in a way that they would rather not as the card-carrying kleptocratic and kleptocratic-flunky acolytes of Donald Trump that they are. And they don’t dare share Trump’s outrage and claim that Trump’s White House looks nothing at all like a Cheesecake Factory. They don’t dare do that, because everyone knows that Trump’s White House does look a lot like a Cheesecake Factory.

So all they have is to claim that it is insulting to the working man of Middle America to notice that the public spaces of a Great Republic should not share the over-the-top kitsch-glitz branding of a successfuly carbmaxxxing chain restaurant.

A week before a very consequential election, and that is what the Wall Street Journal is here to talk about.
